Mary Sheldon Scott (Molly) w orks publicly as a choreographer and privately as a visual artist. 

As a choreographer Scott has created dance works for 30+ years, and holds an MFA degree in Choreography from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1990). Individual
awards include an Artist Trust Fellowship in Dance, and grants from 4Culture, Artist Trust/GAP, and the Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.  Scott was named Velocity Dance Center’s 2008 Choreographer-in-Residence. She is Artistic Director and Choreographer for Scott/Powell Performance and Co-Director of the Composer/Choreographer new performance series.

Scott/Powell Performance has a regional history of strong artistic vision grounded in the 15-year collaboration between choreographer Molly Scott and her partner, composer Jarrad Powell. S/PP has been presented through On the Boards, Dance Theater Workshop/NYC, Portland Institute of Contemporary Art’s T:BA Festival, Myrna Loy Center/Helena Presents, The Southern Theater/Minneapolis, Western Washington University, Pacific Northwest Ballet/Celebrate Seattle Festival, Bumbershoot Festival, Velocity Dance Center, and Composer/Choreographer. Projects of the Company have received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, National Performance Network/Creation Fund, Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Artist Trust, 4Culture, Mayor’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and the SCUBA Touring Program. S/PP’s newest work-in-progress HOME uncovers meaning and story through the exploration of images, materials, dreams, experiences, and ideas identified within the artists’ home environment, and will premiere in 2010. 

Scott’s work as a visual artist began in the 1970‘s in the area of print arts and bookbinding.  Her studies in visual art include courses at Reed College, the University of Oregon/Eugene, the University of Denver, the University of Colorado/Boulder, and Cornish College of the Arts. For the past 20 years Scott has focused on the melding of painting and drawing techniques.  Recent visual series include animal faces, snakes, and trees. Scott is currently investigating set design, costume design, and dance-on-film.
